A 15-year-old girl from Kasaragod, who went missing on May 18, 2009 and
surfaced at the Pathanapuram Gandhi Bhavan here, was handed over to a Crime
Branch CID team from Kasaragod on Sunday morning. She was then brought to
the Crime Branch office here.
Inspector General of Police (Crime Branch) R. Sreelekha talked to her for
over an hour but could not elicit details. The girl was then produced
before the Paravur magistrate at the latter's house. The magistrate ordered
that she be lodged in a Mahila Mandiram till January 15 and produced before
the High Court that day. At the request of the Kasaragod Crime Branch team,
the magistrate let her be lodged at the Kasaragod Mahila Mandiram.
But her mother who arrived here from Kasaragod insists on a Central Bureau
of Investigation probe into the circumstances under which the girl reached
Gandhi Bhavan. She told mediapersons that the police version appeared
farfetched to her.
After the girl went missing, a complaint was lodged with the Kasaragod
police. When it yielded no result, her mother filed a habeas corpus before
the High Court and pleaded for a CBI probe. The case was posted for January
15.
