M.G. University plans a revamp

In a major initiative to revamp the affairs of the self-financing institutions, the Syndicate of Mahatma Gandhi University has decided to approve the recommendations of the five-member adalat committee appointed to look into the financial viability and service and remuneration conditions of such institutions affiliated to the university.

The special framework of rules formulated for the administration of self-financing institutions has also been accepted by the Syndicate, which met here on Tuesday.

As per the recommendations, the current mode of appointment of faculty will be revamped.

The committee had suggested that faculty should be appointed either on temporary basis or on contract basis with the remuneration being dictated as per the scale of pay.

Guest lecturers can be appointed only by the School of Medical Education, that too, for nursing and pharmacy courses.

The committee has also fixed the financial powers of directors, regional directors and principals of the self -financing institutions. All academic issues will depend on the university statutes and regulations, as per the committee report.

The committee has called for deputing non-teaching staff on work arrangement from the university departments to the self-financing institutions.
