Police steps up security in sensitive areas near Panur

Additional police forces have been deployed at Panur and nearby areas in the wake of attack on a BJP worker as sporadic incidents of violence were reported in the politically sensitive localities in the district yesterday.

BJP worker Jitesh was seriously injured as a group of suspected CPI-M activists attacked him at Panur Monday night.

The condition of the victim, who is being treated at a hospital in Kozhikode, was stated to be \\\"normal\\\", police said.

Meanwhile, houses of two CPI-M workers were attacked and household goods vandalised by a group of alleged BJP workers, they said.

No further untoward incidents had been reported from the area, which had been a hot bed of a series of clashes involving the rival CPI-M and BJP-RSS members.
