HelpAge India\'s new service for senior citizens

KOCHI: For many elders who live their life in isolation and neglect, a helpline is now available. HelpAge India has come up with a new service for the elderly in the State who can call on the toll free number 1800-180-1253 from either landline or mobile numbers. Calls can be made on weekdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. for counselling, for sharing concerns, for information on health care services and referral services, for intervention against abuse or for legal opinion.

This facility was inaugurated on Sunday by K. P. Radhakrishna Menon, former judge, High Court of Kerala and former Ombudsman for Local Self Government.

Mr. Menon also launched Physiotherapy Services of HelpAge from their Centre at Panampilly Nagar. It would include individual assessment and treatment facility for conditions arising due to stroke, shoulder pain, back pain, osteoarthritis and masculo-skeletal pain.

Care givers are also given training on site according to the need of the elderly. Besides the medical supervision and exercise advised by the Centre, it would also be visiting old age homes to provide physiotherapy services
