Plea for more PHCs

KOLLAM: The Kerala State Health Inspectors Association urged the State government to seriously view the recent observation of the Union Ministry of Health that the State lacked sufficient number of primary health centres (PHCs) and family welfare sub-centres (FWSCs).

Association general-secretary Asramam P.R. Balagopal said that as per the Ministrys calculation there is a shortage of 94 PHCs and 186 FWSCs. Among the southern States the highest shortage of such centres is in Kerala.

The State government should sanction the required number of PHCs and FWSCs in proportion to the increase in population, he said
