Four get rigorous jail term

Kozhikode: The Special Additional District Sessions Court (Marad cases) here on Thursday sentenced four persons to two years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs.11,000 each in connection with the case of attacking a house at the village of Marad eight years ago.

Pronouncing the judgment, special court judge K.P. Prasannakumari found Thekkepurath Unni alias Ranjith, 34; Choichendakathu Sugunan, 56; Arakkathodi Shaji, 37; and Arayachendakathu Sanadanan, 29, guilty of attacking the house of Thekkethodi Jameela on September 4, 2002. The victim had claimed a damage of Rs.2.5 lakh following the attack on her house.

The incident was a sequel to the communal conflagration at the coastal village on January 3 and 4, 2002 that killed five persons, injured scores of others and destroyed property worth crores of rupees.
