Torture of complainant: rights panel takes up case
KOZHIKODE: The State Human Rights Commission has suo motu taken up a case in connection with the police torture of a complainant in the case of a hidden mobile phone camera being used to capture images in the womens toilet of a restaurant here on Thursday. The State Womens Commission also took up a case. A Sub-Inspector (SI), G. Sunil Kumar, involved in the torture was placed under suspension pending inquiry. Taking cognizance of reports that appeared in the media, commission member K.E. Gangadharan, on Friday, directed Mahesh Kumar Singla, Additional Director-General of Police (ADGP), North Zone, to submit a detailed report within two weeks on the incidents at Sagar Hotel and the Nadakkavu police station. The complainant, Rahul, was stripped and beaten inside the station allegedly by police personnel led by Nadakkavu Principal Sub-Inspector K.K. Biju and SI Sunil Kumar when he refused to hand over the mobile phone to the police team that arrived at the hotel.Rahul had insisted that he would hand over the device containing video images of several persons to the Commissioner of Police or to the Womens Cell
