KOCHI: Its recognition time for the green initiatives of school children.
The eco-clubs in the schools will compete for the coveted green prizes instituted by the Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment.
The prizes will be given for the best eco-clubs formed under the National Green Corps programme, an environment awareness programme initiated by the Ministry of Environment and Forests in 2001. The clubs aim at creating awareness on environmental conservation and conducting activities, which will ultimately help in building a generation that could strengthen the ecological foundation of the State, according to a council communication.
In Kerala, 3,460 schools have eco-clubs functioning on their campuses and each eco-club consists of around 50 students and a teacher in-charge. It is estimated that
