Thiruvananthapuram: Mayor C. Jayan Babu inaugurated a project to promote fish farming in ponds and tanks by releasing fish into the Koyikkal pond at Kannamoola in Thiruvananthapuram on Saturday.
The City Corporation had tied up with the Department of Fisheries for the promotional project being taken up under the Matsya Keralam scheme of the State government. Fish will be released into 20 ponds in different wards of the city in the first phase of the project.
36,000 fish offspring
Local-level committees will monitor the programme. The Fisheries Department is supplying 36,000 fish offspring for the scheme.
Corporation Health standing committee chairman G.R. Anil, ward councillor S. Satheeshkumar, project coordinator Sunilkumar and Fisheries Extension Officer Bindu were present.
