THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala State Housing Board Employees Action Council staged a dharna in front of the Secretariat here on Tuesday demanding immediate intervention of the government to save the board which was in a debt trap and whose activities had ground to a halt.
Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee president Ramesh Chennithala, who inaugurated the protest, offered full support if the State government took steps to launch new schemes with the Centres help and settled the boards dues to the HUDCO under a one-time settlement scheme.
Centre of India Trade Unions State secretary M.M. Lawrence, who delivered the keynote address, asked the Housing and Finance Ministers to take the initiative to solve the financial problems of the board. AITUC State secretary K.P. Sankaradas said it was high time that the State government took steps to solve the boards problems.
Housing Board Employees Federation president C.B.C. Warrier asked the government to pay up its dues to the board.
