Kerala High Court today criticised Wayanad District Collector

Kerala High Court today criticised Wayanad District Collector for classifying disputed 14 acres of land in Krishnagiri estate as government land and termed the act as illegal. The Court observed that, if the land belongs to government it must be acquired according to Land Protection Act.

A Division Bench also granted the MLA M V Shreyams Kumarand two other petitioners– George Pothen and Mohan Ancheril– police protection to continue possession of their holdings in Wayanad district.

After some tribals, who had encroached the land belonging to the MLA were evicted, the Wayanad Collector had set up a board stating that it was government land. Challenging this, Shreyams Kumar approached the High Court seeking police protection to continue possession of the land.

Two others also filed petitions seeking police protection for their lands.
