Thilakan suspended from AMMA

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Disciplinary Action Committee of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA), which met here on Monday, has decided to suspend actor Thilakan from the primary membership of the association till March 8.

The decision was taken after the actor failed to appear before the committee on Monday to explain why disciplinary action should not be initiated against him for his comments against the association. AMMA secretary Edavela Babu said the committee had received a letter from Mr. Thilakan seeking a convenient date for him and the association to sort out the pending issues. Mr. Thilakan said he was busy with a shooting and was unable to appear before the panel in person on Monday.

The committee refused to accept the letter and decided to suspend him till March 8. The decision was later ratified by a meeting of the available members of the executive committee. If he failed to appear before the panel on March 8, the committee would go ahead with further action, Mr. Babu said.

It is an unfortunate event that Thilakan is been suspended from AMMA. Thilakan was assigned to play a key role in Sohan Roy's film DAM999 which is expected to be an Oscar bidding project. This will be a great lose for the film industry.
