Dogs to steal the show at Kanakakunnu

Thiruvananthapuram: As many as 100 dogs of different breeds will be on show at the National Livestock Show and Food Festival beginning at the Kanakakunnu Palace grounds here on Friday.

Apart from the giant St. Bernard, guard dogs like the Mastiff, Rottweiler, Great Dane, German Shepherd and Rajapalayam, sporting breeds like the Labrador Retriever, the cute pug and the pocket-size Chihuahua will be on display.

Smallest canine breed

The Chihuahua, the smallest canine breed, usually weighs around 1.5 to 3 kg and grows to a height of 6 to 10 inches.

The St. Bernard in contrast, weighs 64 to 120 kg and has a height of one metre.

Based on the breed, pedigree and other attributes, the price of a puppy varies from Rs.5,000 to Rs.1 lakh.

The Rottweiler, known as a one-master dog, the German Shepherd famed for its loyalty, the Labrador Retriever, known as a great family dog and the friendly pug are expected to attract visitors to the dog section at the show.
