Take up issues, VS tells MPs

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan on Monday sought the help of MPs from the State to prompt the Union government to include the whole of Kerala in the programmes of the National Food Security Mission.

Addressing a meeting of the MPs in the context of the coming Parliament session, Mr. Achuthanandan said only Palakkad district was now covered by these programmes.

The Centre sanctioned Rs.188 lakh in the first year, Rs.277 lakh in the second year and Rs.262 lakh in the third year for Palakkad district since the launch of the mission, which targeted increasing the food production in the country by one crore tonnes a year.
