Food Minister promises cheaper rice for all sections

Thiruvananthapuram: Food and Civil Supplies Minister C. Divakaran said here on Tuesday that the State government had taken steps to ensure supply of quality rice at subsidised rates for everyone, irrespective of financial status.

Speaking after inaugurating the district-level Cooperative Sales Fair opened by Consumerfed to combat price rise here on Tuesday, he said the department would ensure the availability of rice, sugar and other provisions. �Moves are afoot to provide rice at Rs.2 for all irrespective of whether someone belongs to APL [above the poverty line] or BPL [below the poverty line] families, he said.
