Thiruvananthapuram: Minister for Welfare of Scheduled and Backward Communities A.K. Balan said here on Friday that the government would ensure that students did not stop their education due to lack of financial support.
Speaking after laying the foundation stone for a womens hostel in the Karyavattom campus of the University of Kerala, he said the LDF government had accorded priority to the improvement of facilities for children from SC/ ST families.
The food allowance for student hostel inmates up to metric level has been hiked from Rs.500 to Rs.1,300 while in post-metric hostels, it has gone up to Rs.1,500. SC/ ST students in self-financing colleges are entitled to the same financial assistance enjoyed by their counterparts in government colleges.
