Seminars, rallies mark women\'s day

MALAPPURAM: International Womens Day was observed by various organisations in the district on Monday.

About 1,000 women attended a meeting organised by the Central Field Publicity Directorate in association with the Puzhakkattiri grama panchayat. Inaugurating the celebrations, Family Court Judge K.V. Mohanan said women should try to solve on their own without external help. �You should not wait for others. You can solve your own problems, he said.

A seminar was organised on �Equality in rights, opportunities, and progress. �Goodbye dowry, a play was also staged.

Beena Sunny, president of Puzhakkattiri grama panchayat, presided over the function.

Sujata Varma, lawyer; C. Udayakumar, Field Publicity Assistant; and V.P. Ayyappan, panchayat vice-president; were among those who addressed the gathering.

The girl students of G.M.U.P. School, Chemmankadavu, took out a cycle rally to spread the message of equality.

School Headmistress M. Fousiya flagged off the rally. The Citizens Forum of Thanikkal welcomed the rally and accorded a reception to the students.
