State Government flays Centre for delay

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The State Government has once again accused the Union Government for the delay in the re-establishment of the High Court Bench in the capital.

While replying to a submission by V Surendran Pillai in the Assembly on Tuesday, Law Minister M Vijayakumar said that what lacked was a political decision by the Union Government.

Recently, the Chief Minister got a letter from the Union Law Minister. It said that the HC Bench could be established only with the consent of the High Court. But, it is not mandatory as per the States Reorganisation Act, he said. He said that as the State had submitted a detailed proposal and as the Governor had forwarded it to the Centre through the President, it was now the responsibility of Centre.

Surendran Pillai said that the agitation for the High Court Bench had completed two years.

Though there were promises by our MP during his election campaign, nothing happened, he said.
