Land distributed to tribal families

Thiruvananthapuram: Minister for the Welfare of Scheduled and Backward Communities A.K. Balan said here on Tuesday that the government would take stern action against those who grabbed tribal land. He was addressing a function organised at Vithura to distribute land to tribals under the Forest Rights Act.

Mr. Balan said the government had distributed land to 12,500 tribal families in Kerala. Efforts were on to provide land to 10,000 more tribal families. The Minister announced that the survey of tribal land in Thiruvananthapuram had been completed.

He said all tribal families would be provided 12 kg. of rice free of cost for the Onam festival season
