Minister defends environmental activists

Thiruvananthapuram: Forest Minister Benoy Viswom has called for public condemnation of the trend to brand all environmental activists as anti-development campaigners.

He was delivering the inaugural address at a seminar on Global warming and the survival of the planet, organised by the Swadesi Council, here on Wednesday.

Mr. Viswom said, Only a true lover of nature can appreciate and espouse sustainable development. Such a person speaks the language of well being. Nature lovers shoulder the onerous task of preserving the earth for future generations.

He said Mahatma Gandhis swadesi ideals and vision should be the guiding light for mankind.

He termed Gandhiji the greatest environmental guru the world had ever seen
