Cancer researchers and doctors from all over the country associated with the Indian Association of Cancer Research (IACR) are meeting here for four days to discuss the latest developments to combat the disease.
The annual meeting of the IACR was formally inaugurated by Dominic Presentation, MLA Saturday evening.
Prof E P Reddy, Director FELS Institute of Cancer Research, Philadelphia, US, Dr Reetha Mulherkar President IACR, Dr Thanuja Teni, Secretary IACR and Dr Prem Nair, Medical Director, Dr T S Ganesh, Chairman Cancer Institute and Institute of Molecular Medicine, were among those who spoke.
The IACR, founded in 1980, is based at the Tata Memorial Centre at Mumbai and is the only society for cancer research.
The association's aim is to advance research in all the aspects of cancer, promote interaction among scientists in this field and spread awareness about cancer among the common people.
Over 300 doctors are attending the meeting from all over the country. Eminent Pathologist Dr K Naresh from London will deliver the annual oration on 'Lymphoma, a common cancer', while two keynote addresses would be on targetting tumour blood vessels.
Special sessions would be held on gastrointestinal malignancies, cancer stem cells and on new drug development where eminent experts from all over India will speak.
