DCC chief: focus on Azhakeshan

KOLLAM: The name of senior Congress leader N. Azhakeshan has emerged as a favourite to replace Kadavoor Sivadasan as Kollam District Congress Committee (DCC) president.

Congress sources, however, told The Hindu that nothing could be finalised as a minority group in the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) leadership was in favour of maintaining status quo in Kollam by asking Mr. Sivadasan to continue as the president. Most of the other names for the DCC presidents post that was in circulation earlier had now been eliminated, sources said.

Both Mr. Azhakeshan and Mr. Sivadasan are from the I group and interestingly the support for both of them comes from a divided I group. Sources said the A group in the district favoured Mr. Azhakeshan. Mr. Azhakeshan was earlier DCC president from 1985 to 1987.
