LDF: hike to hit family budgets

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Leaders of various LDF parties have accused the UPA government of having taken the decision to raise the prices of petroleum products and do away with the system of administered pricing in the petroleum sector to suit the interests of private oil monopolies.

In a joint statement here on Friday, CPI(M) State secretary Pinarayi Vijayan, CPI State secretary Veliyam Bhargavan, RSP State secretary V.P. Ramakrishna Pillai, Janata Dal (S) State president N.M. Joseph, Congress (S) State secretary N.V. Pradeep Kumar and Kerala Congress president P.C. Thomas said the decision to decontrol petroleum product pricing had been taken under the cover of the Kirit Parikh Committee recommendations.

The decisions to hike and decontrol the petroleum pricing system would hurt family budgets and have far-reaching consequences, they said.
