Plantation Corporation\'s performance praised

Kozhikode: Agriculture Minister Mullakkara Ratnakaran has called for greater stress on research to accelerate development in the farm sector, particularly plantations.

He was laying the foundation stone for a Rs.6-crore Malabar Cashew Divisional Office Complex of the government-owned Plantation Corporation of Kerala Ltd. at West Hill on Tuesday.

Mr. Ratnakaran said public sector units (PSUs) under the Agriculture Department had made profits to the tune of Rs.244 crore in the past four years. Plantation Corporation alone had posted a profit of Rs.75.75 crore.

He said it had set an example for other PSUs by making profit and increasing production.

Mr. Ratnakaran said the corporation had posted a record profit. Its production had touched an all-time high.

More welfare measures would be introduced for the corporations staff, he said. �This year will be observed as Workers Welfare Year by Plantation Corporation, he said.
