Housing for all is the aim, says VS

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan said the aim of the State government was to achieve housing for all through the implementation of the EMS Housing Scheme and the M.N. Laksham Veedu scheme.

The Chief Minister was speaking after inaugurating the headquarters buildings of Neyyattinkara Municipality on Friday. The building has been named Swadeshabhimani Ramakrisha Pillai Memorial Building.

He said 5 lakh housing units would be built in the State under the two projects. The municipality should support these projects, which would give a fillip to development activities in the State. Likewise, the municipality should pay more attention to sanitation programmes, he said.

Mr. Achuthanandan said Swadeshabhimani Ramakrishna Pillai had chosen a life of poverty and travails by becoming a journalist.

At a time when the Kings word was final, when the rule of the Dewan was at its zenith, Pillai stood his ground for the cause of freedom and showed the people the dharma of journalism. All this and the fact that he introduced Marx and Gandhi to Keralites were historic actions, Mr. Achuthanandan said.
