Public health experts renew H1N1 alert

TPURAM: Public health experts have cautioned the public against a possible flare-up of Influenza A (H1N1) or swine flu in the community in the aftermath of the rains. Senior health officials said district health teams had been asked to be on renewed alert against swine flu as the threat perception about the infection seems to have vanished. Seasonal influenza virus is being slowly replaced by H1N1 virus in the community and it is possible that the virus is quietly in circulation but that its infection potential has been low because of the rise in temperature. We have adequate stocks of the medicine and are checking the district stores to ensure that there is enough medicine to manage any situation, a senior Health official said.
