Engineering students develop intelligent lighting system

Thiruvananthapuram: Streetlights that are switched on when there is strong ambient light, lights aglow in the dead of the night on rarely used stretches, faulty lights that are not replaced the way our roads are lit leaves much to be desired. A group of students of the Electrical and Electronics course of the M.G. College of Engineering, Vandithadam, Thiruvallam, believe they may have a solution to the problems.

As part of a project, Visakh Dhar, G.G. Saran Kumar, R. Prasanth Nair, A.R. Sarath and V.G. Adarsh have designed an Intelligent street lighting system which can provide optimum lighting level for city streets. They were guided by faculty member Yamuna.
