Contractors demand steps to control cement price

ALAPPUZHA: The Kerala Government Contractors Association has demanded that the State government should make effective interventions to restrain the prices of cement, which had shot up by 33 per cent in the last two months.

Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, association president Varghese Kannampally alleged that cement manufacturers had joined hands to control production and to increase exports in order to jack up cement prices in the domestic market.

The association also demanded that the government should establish a monopoly over sand and ensure supply of the material through an exclusive marketing network to the public.
