KOCHI: With water being supplied to most wards in Vypeen in tanker lorries, local residents stopped blocking vehicles intoVypeen islands as part of their protest against water shortage.
Water was brought in by 9 a.m. and both the southern and northern areas of Vypeen and Elamkunapuzha got water. The people of Vypeen had started blocking the vehicles to the island at the Kaalamukku junction as the authorities had failed to arrange for any alternative method to supply water to the area in spite of a major fault in the pipeline from Vaduthala pump house that takes water to the islands
Each tanker was accompanied by a policeman to ensure smooth distribution of water to the people. K. G. Dono Master, grama panchayat president along with C. M. Devassy, district president of Nationalist Congress Party were involved in talks with the police led by T. Vikram, Superintendent of Police (Rural).
