Thrissur: A week-long exhibition of paintings by Russian artists has opened at the art gallery of the Kerala Lalithakala Akademi here. Titled Leto, the exhibition has on display over 25 paintings by five painters, including Anatoli Soloviov and Sattarov Mansoor, teachers at the Fine Arts School, Scrov, Moscow.
Paintings of Chepik Daniel, Daria and Geraskeivich Valery, students of Surikov Art Institute, Moscow, are also in the exhibition.
Rich in colours, the paintings display a mix of traditional and contemporary styles of Russian art, which has a rich history and a long traditional excellence. The artists have captured Russian identity in landscapes of wide rivers and forests.
According to Sathyapal, secretary of Kerala Lalithakala Akademi, the exhibition has been organised as part of a cultural exchange programme between India and Russia.
The artists have tried to redefine Russian avant-garde, a wave of modern art flourished in Russia between 1890 and 1930. The term avant-garde, refers to many related art movements, which were prominent in that time such as neo-primitivism, supermatism, constructivism, rayonism and futurism.
Russian artists said that they were here to know more about Indian arts and culture.
