Thiruvananthapuram: The eight-day National Theatre Festival beginning here on March 10 will feature 14 plays in Indian languages, including Malayalam.
Sagara Kanyaka (Malayalam), directed by M.G. Jyothish of Abhinaya, will be the first to be staged at the festival to be held under the auspices of the Department of Information and Public Relations at the Tagore Theatre here.
Centaurs, directed by Anuradha Kapur, Ecdysis/The Snake Sheds its Skin (Hindi),directed by Arjun Raina, Dalpat Singh Yeti Gava (Marathi) by Atul Pethe, Tedha Darpan (Hindi) by Rajkumar Rajak, Bikhare Bimb (Hindi) by Girish Karnad and Black Orchid (Manipuri) by Toijam Shila Devi are among the notable works to be featured in the festival.
The Malayalam plays to be staged include Avanavan Kadamba by Kavalam Narayana Panikkar, Spinal Cord directed by Deepan Shivaraman of the Oxygen theatre group, Thrissur, Iruvattam Manavatti by Ramesh Varma, Pravaachaka by C.V. Sudhi of Nireeksha, Koottukrishi by Naripetta Raju and the new version of Ningal Enne Communistakki by KPAC.
Trojan Women � A Love Story, based on Jean Paul Sartre�s work and presented by the Department of Indian Theatre, Panjab University, Chandigarh, will mark the conclusion of the festival on March 17.
A workshop and exhibition are also being organised in connection with the festival. Delegates can register online from Tuesday. The registration fee is Rs.100. It is free for students. For online registration, log on to the website www.prd.kerala.gov.in/tfest.
