KOCHI: Kerala High court Tuesday issued notice to Minister of state for Railways, E Ahamed, central and state governments on a public interest litigation petition seeking to abolish quota for private operators, who organise tours for Haj Pilgrims.
A Division Bench, comprising Chief Justice J Chalemeswar and C N Ramachandran Nair, admitted the petition and issued notices to Ahamed and others.
The petitioner, Khalid Mundapally of Kochi, also wanted a direction to the state and central government to introduce the system of registration with due consideration for persons aged 65 and above.
Another plea was to constitute an independent and impartial agency for conducting an efficient investigation into the irregularity and illegality in the matter of allotment of quotas for tour operators for Haj pilgrims for the period 2004-09.
