TPURAM: A decentralised scientific system for waste disposal would be introduced in Thrissur town to solve the problem of waste dumping at Laloor in the city which has triggered protest from locals.
The new scheme to be implemented at a cost of Rs. 8 to 10 crores would be initiated by the City Corporation from June, Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan told reporters after a meeting to discuss Laloors problems caused by waste in one place.
Local people under a Joint Action Samithi were on war path for the past 112 days demanding a solution to the health and environment problems caused by dumping of waste at Laloor.
Agriculture University Scientist Pathiyour Gopinath presented a blue-print of the environment friendly scheme at the meeting.
State Revenue Minister K P Rajendran, Thrissur Mayor R Bindu and former speaker and Thrissur MLA Therambil Ramakrishnan were among those present at the meeting.
