Isaac details strategy for road works

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Finance Minister T.M. Thomas Isaac said here on Sunday that the roads under the Public Works Department (PWD) spread across the length and breadth of the State now had 57,889 potholes.

At a press conference after a meeting of PWD engineers from all parts of the State, Dr. Isaac promised that these potholes would be filled before July 5.

He said all engineers in the department would be on the field starting Monday till the last pothole was attended to. Every officer of the rank of assistant executive engineer had been provided imprest of Rs.50,000.

They had also been given permission to spend up to Rs.5,000 till the end of the monsoon to hire taxi to go around and ensure road damages were promptly rectified.

Short tenders will be floated within two days at the level of each area office for taking up items of road patch work. He said 7,480.792 km of roads now required patch work. This would be completed by August middle.

Road resurfacing work would be undertaken once the rainy season is over
