RSS appeals against liquor sale

Thiruvananthapuram: The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has urged the government not to sell liquor through authorised outlets of the Kerala State Beverages Corporation in view of the social problems it engendered in the State.

Briefing reporters on the decisions of the RSS State executive committee meeting here on Monday, Pranth Karyavah V.Gopalankutty Master and Pranth Prachar Pramukh R.Sanjayan said alcoholism had emerged as a major bane for the State.

The Beverages Corporation sold Rs.5,549 crore worth of liquor last financial year. Apart from the 393 authorised outlets of the Corporation, there are 600 bars, 5,000 toddy shops and over 20,000 unauthorised outlets in the State, they said adding that a popular movement must be initiated against the social evil.
