Highway work will cause largest forced displacement, says council

KOZHIKODE: M.R. Murali, chairman of the action council formed to oppose displacement of people and privatisation of National Highways, said the LDF government should re-examine its policy of repression being launched against those opposing National Highway development. These people are fighting for their basic right to property and livelihood and the filing of police cases against them is not an act worthy of a Leftist government, Mr. Murali said. He was speaking at the Calicut Press Club after the Peoples March led by the Council traversed Ernakulam, Thrissur and Malappuram districts to enter Kozhikode on Thursday. Murali also asked the two main parties in the State, the CPI (M) and the Congress to make their stand on NH widening public. Currently both parties were feigning ignorance by dubbing it a Central project in which the State had no stake, he said
