No plan to raise pension age: VS

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The government has no proposal to raise the retirement age of its employees, Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan has said.



Replying to questions in the Assembly on Monday, Mr. Achuthanandan said 20,000 people, including government employees and teachers, would retire from service this year and the government would have to disburse pension benefits of Rs.1,500 crore. Each State was considering its unique conditions for fixing the retirement age. As many as 6,027 super-numerary posts had been created so far.
