Music college holding dance workshop

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Sree Swathi Tirunal College of Music here is organising an academic initiative programme, titled Sadhana, on Natya Sampradaya and Shasthra from Tuesday to Thursday.



V.P. Dhananjayan, classical dance exponent, will inaugurate the programme at the Dr. L. Muthayya Bhagavathar auditorium, a statement said here on Monday.



The inaugural function will be followed by a lecture demonstration by Mr. Dhananjayan on �Bharatnatyam: an integral part of Indian life.� In the afternoon session, Shanta Dhananjayan will present a lecture demonstration on �Nattuvangam and choreography in Bharatanatyam.� A Bharatanatyam recital by the Dhananjayans will be held at 5 p.m.



On Wednesday, K. Sankarankutty, former Head of the Department of Dance of the college, will present a lecture demonstration on �Origin of Kerala Natanam.� This will be followed by a lecture demonstration by Neena Prasad on �Possibilities and development of Mohiniyattom through Carnatic music.�



At 12.15 p.m., Anupama Mohan will present a lecture demonstration on �Kuchipudi through the ages.� Ms. Prasad and party will present a special Mohiniyattom recital at 5 p.m.



On the concluding day, Madavoor Vasudevan Nair, Kathakali maestro, will present a lecture on �Role of different characters in Kathakali.� This will be followed by lecture demonstration on �Abhinaya Sangeetham� by Kalamandalam Surendran.



In the afternoon session, a Kerala Natanam performance by the staff of the Department of Dance will be held. At 5 p.m., Mr. Vasudevan Nair, Ettumanoor Kannan, Anchal Sivanandan Nair and party will stage Kalyana Sougandhikam Kathakali.



Admission to the programme is free, the statement said. Those who wish to register as delegates are requested to contact Sadhana coordinator K. Sivanandan Nair.
