KALPETTA: The Kerala government would set up eight modern industrial units in the State during the current financial year, State Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Sports M Vijayakumar said Thursday.
A cabinet meeting held recently had decided to provide a budgetary allocation of Rs 128 crore for setting up the units, Vijaya Kumar said, inaugurating a handloom dress manufacturing unit of the Wayanad Handloom and Multi Purpose Industrial Cooperative Society at Thirunelli in the district.
The works for the proposed enterprise would begin in May and commissioned within a year, he said.
As many as 41 public enterprises in the state were operating in loss. The Left Democratic Front Government could turn 35 of them into profit making ones while all the public sector units would make profit within a year
