Kochi: The golden jubilee celebrations of the Malayalam film Nayarupidicha Pulivalu will be held here on April 30.
Produced by T.E. Vasudevan of Jayamaruthi Pictures, the film had kept the cash registers ringing for as many as 135 days after its release. It was in fact made on a shoestring budget of less than Rs. 1 lakh, recalled Mr. Vasudevan.
Released in 1958, it was his fifth film. He recalled that films used to be made on a budget of Rs. 2 lakh to Rs. 3 lakh at that time. The flop of some of his previous films at the box-office had forced him to think of producing a low-budget film. It was his sheer determination that enabled him to embark on such a risky venture.
Nayarupidicha Pulivalu was a resounding success because it had a good story line
