KOCHI: The Residents Associations Apex Council - Ernakulam (RACE) has expressed concern at the deteriorating condition of arterial and side roads in the city and suburbs.
Many potholed stretches have for over a month been causing traffic hold ups and accidents. The council demanded timely and quality resurfacing of roads with a guarantee. Its president S. Balakrishnan said that city roads were never in this bad a condition.
Civic agencies went back on their promise that they would reinforce vulnerable stretches before the rainy season. This apart, most residential colonies and even the MG Road get inundated in a minor downpour, because of clogged drains and many roads slanting away from the drains.
Very often, traffic comes to a grinding halt on either side of the Ernakulam South overbridge thanks to the potholes on the bridge and the access roads.
Similar is the case with the Chitoor Road, the Karshaka Road that connects the SA Road with the eastern entry of the Ernakulam Junction railway station, service roads to the NH and most side roads maintained by the Corporation of Kochi.
