THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala will present its views and documents showing structural weakness of the Mullaperiyar dam before the empowered committee constituted by the Centre on a directive from the Supreme Court.
A high-level conference, chaired by Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan, here on Wednesday decided that the second part of the study done by the Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkie, on the likely impact of earthquakes on the dam should be placed before the empowered committee.
In addition, studies on structural weakness of the dam would be prepared and presented.
The conference resolved to take a strong stand before the committee that a new dam would be the solution to the problem.
The conference was attended by Minister for Water Resources N.K. Premachandran; Additional Chief Secretary K. Jayakumar; Principal Secretary (Water Resources) L. Radhakrishnan; Advisor to the Chief Minister on Inter-State Waters P.M. Valsalan; chairman of the Mullaperiyar Cell M. K. Parameswaran Nair; members of the cell; and chief engineer K. Lathika and C.N. Sathi.
