KANNUR: The Malabar Devaswom Staff Union (MDSU), an affiliate of the Indian National Trade Union Congress, will stage a dharna in front of the Secretariat on July 21 demanding amendment to the Malabar Devaswom Act and setting up of a common fund for temples under the Malabar Devaswom Board.
The union central committee meeting here decided to stage the dharna to press its demands, which include steps to amend the Act to implement the High Court judgment on establishing the board, to introduce a common scheme by unifying separate schemes for administration of temples in the Malabar region, rectification of anomalies in the pay scale of temple employees, action against temple administrations that are yet to implement pay reforms and disbursal of pay arrears from March 2009.
Union State president T.V. Chandramohan presided over the meeting. General secretary V.V. Sreenivasan and secretary P.K. Balagopalan participated.
