THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A high-level meeting chaired by Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan here on Wednesday decided to expedite steps to construct a new bridge in place of the 80-year-old Moidupalam at Thalassery.
Finance Minister Thomas Isaac, in charge of the Public Works portfolio, told the meeting that the government would meet any expenditure required for the project in addition to the funds sanctioned by the Centre.
Land will be acquired with the full concurrence of land owners. The meeting entrusted Collector V.K. Balakrishnan with the task. The Home Minister said the next Cabinet would take a decision on the Collectors recommendation for fast-track acquisition.
The PWD Minister wanted immediate steps to be taken for the repair and maintenance of the Kadachira-Mamakunnu-Meethala Peedika Road through which goods vehicles were being diverted after the Moidupalam became unsafe. The meeting was attended by A.P. Abdullakutty, MLA; PWD Principal Secretary Tom Jose; Dharmadam panchayat president Sreeja and Muzhappilangadu panchayat president Prabhakaran Master.
