NORKA Training programmesto be diversified: Kerala CM

TPURAM: Kerala government had set apart Rs One Crore this year for diversifying the training programme for prospective emigrants to foreign countries, Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan said on Friday.

Speaking after distributing certificates to the new batch of job-seekers who got trained by `ROOTS, an organisation under the Non-Resident Keralite Affairs (NORKA) department, he said the training would equip job-seekers with new skills and help them survive the competition in Gulf and other foreign countries.

The government had evolved several welfare measures for Non-Resident Keralites through the non-resident Keralite (NRK) Welfare Board. NORKA cells under various district collectorates had been strengthened enabling NRK kin to get official help to settle their relatives problems abroad.

NORKA-ROOTS would also start a recruitment drive in a professional manner along with the training programmes, the Chief Minister said.
