Raids continue

ALAPPUZHA: Raids by police teams on the houses of leaders, activists and office-bearers of the Popular Front of India (PFI) and the Socialist Democratic Party of India (SDPI) continued for the second day on Wednesday in various parts of the district.

The raids in Alappuzha, which began in the morning, were at Punnapra, Ambalapuzha, Valanjavazhi, Pulayanvazhi, Mullathuvalappu and Purakad.

PFI district secretary Sudheer Punnapra and district treasurer T.K.P. Salahuddins houses were among those raided. Houses of several SDPI activists too were raided.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (Alappuzha) B. Ravindra Prasad said the raids would continue on Thursday. So far, apart from a few weapons, pamphlets and CDs that were recovered during the raids at Mannancherry, the police have not been able find anything �incriminating, Mr. Prasad said.

PFI Ambalapuzha area secretary Suneer was arrested by the police later in the day for taking out a protest march without the permission of the police.
