High Court issues notice on Maudany\'s plea

BANGALORE: The Karnataka High Court, on Thursday, ordered issue of notice to Karnataka State and others on a criminal petition by Peoples Democratic Party leader Abdul Nasir Maudany, one of the accused in the 2008 Bangalore serial blasts case.

Mr. Maudany had filed an anticipatory bail application before the Karnataka High Court on Monday.

In his petition, Mr. Maudany said the Fifth Fast Track Court, Bangalore, had dismissed his plea for anticipatory bail, saying there was no prima facie case to grant him anticipatory bail.

Mr. Maudany urged the High Court to quash that order, alleging that the lower court had relied on lies and unfounded arguments of the prosecution against him.

He alleged that the prosecution had misled the lower court by claiming that the police had obtained sanction from the Centre before filing a charge sheet against him under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
