Third time unlucky for airport terminal

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The decision of the Airports Authority of India (AAI) to defer commissioning of the Thiruvananthapuram international airport terminal � due to a controversy over who should inaugurate it � has come as a big setback to the travelling public and the airlines.

Union Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel was scheduled to commission the terminal on July 16. International operations from the new terminal was to have commenced on August 1.

However, the State government is keen on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh inaugurating the terminal. It is learnt that when Mr. Patel and T.K. A. Nair, the Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, talked to Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan over phone on Monday, he sought deferring of the commissioning from July 16 as he would be preoccupied
