Kozhikode turns a commercial hub of Malabar

When compared to other prime cities in Kerala, as of now, Kozhikode is fast turning out to be a major commercial hub. With too many ambitious projects centering Kozhikode having already taken off and many still in the pipeline, the city of Zamorins is beginning to hog the limelight. With these, not only Kozhikode but the entire Malabar region will reap the benefits of industrial growth in terms of more job opportunities and allied activities resulting out of it.

Of all the projects, the two IT parks one the Government-owned Cyber Park and the other one U L Cyber Park promoted by Uralungal Labour Contract Co-operative Society located at a short distance from the city is likely to spearhead the growth prospects of Kozhikode in a big way. The proposal of converting these IT Parks into a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) has already got its clearance from the Government. On completion, these two projects will turn out to be Kozhikodes answer to Technopark in the State capital and Infopark at Kochi. With Kozhikode turning out to be a major IT destination in South India, the long awaited dream of people of Malabar is also getting translated into a reality.

Till now, no major commercial activity has taken place in Kozhikode. And with the coming up of two IT Parks, the fortunes of entire Malabar region is in the threshold of a revolutionary change, observes M.A.Mehboob, secretary of the Calicut Chapter of CREDAI Kerala. And at this point, at CREDAI, we are seriously involved in spreading awareness at all levels as these new projects will give a facelift to the entire Malabar region. However K.G.Girishbabu, the CEO of UL Cyber Park is of the view that a lot need to be done in terms of infrastructure development as the prevailing conditions are too minimal especially in the case of domestic air connectivity. Kozhikode being the only major city between Mangalore and Kochi along the Western Coast has huge potential growth in its fold and can be the natural choice of many corporate majors, he adds.
