PFI\'s �freedom parade\' banned

KOCHI: Additional District Magistrate K.N. Raje, who is also District Collector-in-charge, has banned the �freedom parade proposed to be held by the Popular Front of India (PFI) on August 15.

Based on a report given by T. Vikram, Superintendent of Police, Ernakulam Rural, the District Collector invoked Section 21 A of the Police Act banning �the conduct of parades or mass drill that could breach public peace and tranquillity.

The training by the PFI were already being monitored after many PFI activists were included in the case related to assault made on T.J. Joseph, professor, Newman College, Thodupuzha.

Younus of Kothamangalam, for whom the police have issued a look-out notice in this case, was the convener of the parade in the district. Many other members of the organising committee were also wanted in the case.

According to the order issued by the District Collector, the ban will be in force till August 17.
